Which video player has the best quality?
I have a media center PC with Windows 10 on which I often watch movies. Unfortunately, I've discovered that the picture quality varies dramatically between different video players.
Some examples:
- VLC is usually too dark and, especially with HDR content, almost unusable on a non-HDR-capable TV. However, the colors are great, beautiful, and vibrant.
- MPC-HC 2.1 is actually always great in terms of brightness, but unfortunately the colors are totally pale and washed out.
- And Windows Media Player doesn't play MKV and constantly stutters with large files…
It's frustrating! Isn't there just ONE player that can do everything well? I really don't want to have to try out a whole host of players before every movie to figure out which one looks best…
PS: My TV is a Samsung UE75MU8000. It's theoretically HDR capable, but unfortunately I can't get it to work on my PC (RX580). That would probably solve some problems…
Should be logical. You can’t go with a sports car on a forest work path.
Did you think compress is always going?
I can drive slowly with the sports car ^^
But it’s not just about HDR… Even with SDR files, the image on VLC is mostly too dark and MPC-HC is all washed.
But basically you’re right, and I should really get HDR to run. But the TV still has HDMI 2.0 and there is HDR at 4K apparently a little tricky -.-
