Which tax brackets apply if my wife has a mini-job?

Hello

My wife wants to change her contract to a mini-job. I earn a lot more than my wife, so up until now we have been in tax class 3 (me) and tax class 5 (my wife). However, we now want to know which tax classes we would be in if my wife starts a mini-job.

If at the minijob of the woman % flat rate tax is paid by the mini-job employer, then it does not need a wage tax class!

You have to pay for tax class 3. Although you have more net wages under the year, you should save the difference for a possible one. Repayment: https://www.socialpolitik-aktuell.de/files/social policy-current/_policy fields/financing/data collection/PDF files/abbIII21b.pdf

Basically, it’s like this:

  • Control class 1: single
  • Tax class 2: single person
  • Tax class 3: married, spouse tax class 5
  • Tax class 4: Standard case for married persons
  • Tax class 5: married, spouse tax class 3
  • Tax class 6: Every side job that is not Minijob

The classification with you only changes something at request

the tax classes can remain as they are. But your wife will not be deducted under the tax class if the minijob is actually taxed on a flat-rate basis.
