Yes Pico is very good for easy things.

I had already used the Pico for the city of Munich in the sponge city model

(STEUERING pumps and water monitoring with e-mail dispatch)

Also at the IAA a Pico W had provided good services at 1-2-or-3

(FernControl of Display, with WEBSITE)

And will soon build some in the museum

(language output and monitoring)

  • Small
  • Compatible with the sensors
  • Easy to program in Python
  • Energy saving
  • Versatile

And most of it goes on the big as well

The devices differ in equipment and performance, not so much in “starter suitability”.

Unlike the other models, the Pico is a microcontroller board. So there is no Linux on it, and it is not suitable as a PC replacement, but rather for control tasks. It is therefore competing for e.g. the popular ESP32 boards, but I think it is better (because clean design and much better documentation).

The things are eh mocky, so put one to you and see if it’s enough for your purposes.

PC and a 9€ processor are of course a huge difference

Especially since there is no HDMI standard

But gives a lot of opportunities that are reasonable and a PC cannot
