Which power supply for string lights?
Hello, I have a classic string of lights with 10 LEDs, including a standard battery compartment with a total of three AAA batteries, arranged in opposite directions or connected in series. (I think everyone knows this.)
𝗠𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: I would like to replace the battery compartment with a power plug/transformer.
Am I correct in assuming that the three batteries in series correspond to 4.5 volts, and that I therefore need a power supply with approximately 5 volts? Does that mean I need a power supply with approximately 5 volts? 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗻?
Yes, three 1.5V batteries have in series 4.5V. That’s the rated voltage. However, the actual voltage decreases according to the remaining charge and is idR. between 1.6V (full) and 0.9V (empty). A 5V power supply could work but with 4.5V you would be on the safe side.
When it comes to power, it is only important that the power supply can supply at least as much power as the LEDs need. With only 10 LEDs, probably even 1A should be enough.
