Normally, I shave my beard every 3-4 days, which would be fine, but I like a fresh, wet shave. The question is, which takes off more beard? And what makes my skin smoother so that the beard is almost invisible?

A safety razor or a straight razor.
System razors (Gillette, etc.) only needlessly irritate the skin with their thousands of blades. The blades are also ridiculously expensive and produce enormous amounts of waste. The spaces between the blades are difficult to clean, causing them to clog more quickly and becoming a breeding ground for bacteria.
With a safety razor or straight razor you get a close shave because only a single blade glides over the skin, resulting in less skin irritation.
