Which external hard drive?

Hello everyone,

I originally wanted to transfer pictures and videos from my iPhone to my laptop (Windows) so I could then delete them from my phone. However, my laptop doesn't have enough storage space, so I want to save them to an external hard drive.

I'm a complete novice…can anyone recommend an external hard drive?

Look at Amazon: external hard drives or guenstiger.de etc.

500GB to 1TB HD in 2.5 inch housing. SSD also goes, which have the advantage are smaller and faster

The first question is how big it should be. I think an external SSD is better than an HD.

HD I would take from WD or Seagate, SSD from Samsung or Sandisk.

I suspect that 500GB are sufficient for this application

It depends…

Which external hard drive is the best?

The following external SSDs have best cut off in tests from specialist magazines: SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2 (1/2/4 TB) Price performance tip: Transcend ESD380C (500 GB) Sustainability tip: Samsung Portable T7 Shield (1/2/4 TB)12.05.2024

Maybe a cloud makes sense?

I would also say that a cloud solution would make sense, especially the iCloud, as the automatically deletes images on the device, but they are still available in the Photos app. Google Photos can do this under Android, too, could be that it also works on iOS. With OneDrive but not – and for photos, OneDrive would not be my preferred solution now, unless you have Microsoft 365 anyway, then it’s… well, okay.
