Which branch should I take at school?
Hey!
I have to choose my major soon, so for us it's either science and technology or Italian.
I was actually sure I would take the science course.
But now I remembered that I have friends in Italy who don't speak English.
We also had a presentation on the Italian branch and now it doesn't seem so bad to me anymore.
We have to make our final choice soon and I have no idea yet!
Take Italian, adopting languages come easily to you. You can always learn scientific or business-related subjects later in your training; language subjects are less likely. For one thing, learning foreign languages becomes more the older you get, and for another, you don't have time for Italian during training or university difficult if you don't need it for the exam. You'll have plenty of other things to learn.
…it also sounds to me like it's not just about physics and biology, but also about things like mechanics and electronics. That can be quite complicated.
Typically, you choose a branch based on what you're interested in, or perhaps even aptitude for. Perhaps also in relation to a future career choice. Not based on friends in country xy—with whom, by the way, you seem to have been able to get along so far, otherwise, how would you be friends…?
You'll have to figure it out for yourself. Italian as an elective is fine, but as a branch, I don't know. I don't think it will be of much use to you later on, unless you can imagine doing something with languages in general or something like that.
In any case, languages are generally easier to learn than natural sciences, and above all, they can be learned "on the side," even as an older person.
Do you already know what you want to do? Perhaps the science branch would be useful.
Otherwise, just take Italian if you enjoy it. You can always learn certain subjects later if they become relevant for your career.
Science is always a consideration when making such decisions. Languages can be learned well even at an advanced age, but mathematical understanding that isn't developed as early as possible is much more difficult to catch up on later.
I completely disagree. You can always learn math or business administration, but the pronunciation of unfamiliar sounds (like ä, ö, ü in German or the th in English) becomes increasingly difficult as you get older.
