Which blank do I need?

I want to burn DVDs, and it will take over 20 hours. There are several videos, each about 20 minutes long. I'm standing in front of the shelf and don't know which blank discs I need.

There are Recordable, Rewritable, -RW, +RW, packs of 10 DVDs that say "4 x 120 min" and packs of 10 DVDs that say "16 x 120 min"

The whole thing is very confusing, and the store workers themselves don't know much about it. Any help is appreciated.

What do you want to do with the data on the DVD’s?

If you just want to watch on the drive in the PC, it doesn’t matter. But if you want this to people who don’t have a burner – just a playback or a DVD player on the TV, then you have to worry about it. RW blanks are only interesting for the PC and allow a later overwrite. If that is not desired and the goal, that is a meaningless choice. Then “normal” blanks, which can only be written once, are better. In the long term, probably better with regard to data security. As far as I remember, if your burner + and – supports the – blanks are those that are more generally supported by DVD players. At + there are probably more players who have something “sick”. But let me say that no DVDs or Blurays have ever burned. Play on hard drive and play on NAS on TV or PCs…

  • If you don’t want to delete it, so just want to describe it once, you’ll have to No …RW (reWritable, rewritable) take.
  • Otherwise, it’s hot whether DVD-R or DVD+R, because for a long time any burner and any player can both.
  • The x4 or x16 refers to the possible firing speed relative to the running time of the films.

You can use the following:

  • +R: Descriptable once
  • -R: Descriptable once
  • +RW rewritable
  • -RW rewritable

The number 16 means that it can be burned at a maximum speed of 16 times. Fit a DVD for a maximum of 120 minutes.

To burn the DVDs you need a DVD authoring software. This converts the video files into VOB files. This is the format for DVD videos. You can also create a DVD menu and divide it into chapters. As a final step, the project is then fired to a DVD ring. For example DVDStyler: https://www.dvdstyler.org/en/ Operation is easy.

Converting takes over DVDStyler. Simply drag the MP4 into your project.

RW means that the disks can also be deleted and reused.

whether you want to take + or depends on the burner you want to burn the discs.
It is also important in which device is to be played later.

Since the blanks cost little, take 5 DVD-R and DVD+R each and find out what’s best for you, your technology and the playing equipment.

Hi.

I would take the recordable +R or -R, the rewritable are somehow softer/sensitive and have faster RW errors. Then, however, what you’ve burned 1x if the OK is for you

Verbatim or Platinum are good M.E.N.

I had the best experiences with DVD+R.

-RW and +RW stand for rewritable DVDs and may not be supported by some burners.

4x or 16x stands for the firing speed. The blank is 4x or 16x as quickly as a finished DVD is read.

120min means that you can probably burn videos in a total length of 2 hours.

Then there are single-layers and dual-layer DVDs. The former can record up to 4.5 GB of data (or up to 120 min. Videos), the latter about 8 GB (or up to 3.5 hours of videos).

How can it be that employees don’t know about something simple, such as DVD blanks?

4x or 16x is the write speed. You know that since there are blanks.

Take the most normal DVD-R. I don’t think you want to use the DVD again at some point.

Who the DVD should only be described once Dan take the 16x

The RW blanks are rewritable
