Which bedding for horse boxes?

Hello, my pony has a giant stall for the first time this winter. Three stalls were combined into one, measuring 36 square meters. Half of it is covered with regular straw. I would like a different surface in the area around the feed rack and trough, which is about 15 square meters, so I don't have to muck out the entire stall. Unfortunately, I haven't had much success with paddock/stall mats. What surface do you recommend? I'm thinking of shavings, sand, or bark mulch.
It's only about the night around 6-8am, during the day she's always outside 🙂

Thank you very much in advance 🙂

18 am to 8 pm are still 14 hours in the box – still more than half the day for a very social tread.

Straw makes a lot of crap, gambles quickly and is long overtaken.

Personally, I still love boxing gold – simple rubbing, little crap, but, of course, has no huge advantage.

There are also all other types of litter. Leinstroh would no longer take – very slippery, also mutters if it is eaten, it can leave nasty damage in the intestinal wall. All the litter that I have to do wet (hippoding, etc.) falls out with me because I personally prefer a hard ground and a dry climate for the hoove.

I will not argue with “Box is evil”. You have to know yourself.

If you want to do a favor to your horse, you’ll be all right. The larger the lying surface, the better. If you only “half” in, the horse will distribute everything with the disadvantage that the litter becomes too thin. The horse can then also slide away when standing up. For many a reason to lay down more rarely what is necessary for the REM sleep.

I use straw as we have very good quality (no mold etc). It’s even my cough horse. At the Pipi site, I’ll pick up some chips.

I use only chips, flour and other “fine” litter because of the risk of slipping.

Sand and Mulch I think I’m unhygienic and too expensive when it’s done.

For me, procurement costs and costs are an important decision criterion. I’ll keep my horse in the open and mix it daily.

Miscantos. It is long-lasting, makes little crap and can be cleaned well. You can leave it in the box for a very long time, only the Boller and "driving" places have to be removed. Shake the rest and spread in the middle.

BUT: Never sprinkle too high. When the horse is rolling, it can be stuck and then it can become dangerous.

Straw. This is and remains the only true.

Straw makes enormous a lot of crap, molds inconceivably fast, dusts, is bad to mists and easy to handle. Straw is completely overtaken and for a few years no longer “the only true”.

You’re right, but the sawdust has risen explosively in price

I’m not sure. We always get this from the location house in the neighboring town. You’re sure to find out on the internet

and where do you get that?

Elephant grass. They don’t eat it anyway. My only thought at the afang that the lining is in pellet form. If it’s broken, even she doesn’t eat it anymore.

and what are the Miscantos? What is this material?

With my new mare, that was the case at Miscantos in the beginning. You can soak it, then they will fall down better/faster and at the Tga they came into the box. This also works with straw pellets. We have to go to Srothpellets next year until April because the Miscantos is only then available. At the moment, the straw pellets are even cheaper than at the time when there was generally so little straw.

Hello Shali talked to the stable owner with over 40 horses in the stable where I work, the straw pellets would be too expensive and when the horses eat the pellets they get a colic which is not the point of the thing

I agree with Punkgirl512.

Straw makes a lot of crap and costs a lot.

Better would be either miscantos or straw pellets. Both easy to run, little crap and thus lower costs. With good care, the Miscantos can also be left in the box for three weeks, the same with the straw pellets. Only if it becomes too little dizziness, you pour something. We need 1-2 new sacks per horse every month, as the quantity in the box is too small.

Both really praiseworthy and inexpensive!

There are also much more than these 2 litter species….

Hello recommend sawdust, this is the best to sprinkle, I don’t know your horse, some always make the same place and some mess up the whole box, let’s see how your horse behaves

But sawdust is expensive and must not be applied in fields.
