Which 3D printer material?
I'm currently planning a project on my 3D printer: a board game table. You can imagine it as a tabletop on legs with a rim and a bunch of add-ons for board games like card holders, etc. The whole thing will then sit on a table.
My only question is which material I should use. I'm printing the border from TPU, and the plate itself (consisting of many individual tiles) from a wood filament for an extra fancy effect. The question is, should I print the legs, the elements that hold everything together, and things like the dice towers from PETG or PLA? What would you recommend?
What is perhaps worth mentioning: the project is very large and has a total approximate printing time (PLA with 50mm/s) of almost 1800 hours and needs 17 kg of filament
You have to decide where and how to use the table. In summer in the sun? Then PLA’s falling out.
Do you have any experience with PETG? This is hard to print and needs some exercise.
TPU is also not easy, but still a great material with a few good properties.
What about ABS?
But always ventilate well. There are considerable pollutants coming out at pressures.
The advantage is stability and reprocessability. It can be sanded and drilled, which is only possible with PLA to a limited extent.
Also write by Wood Filament. This makes the selection very limited.
Wood is not available in all types of art.
Thank you for the helpful tips. I haven’t printed Petg yet. I would have read myself in a bit before I crashed. Since the table is used exclusively in the apartment, PLA is in any case a possibility, with ABS the price has scared me a little, after all it costs almost a third more than PLA, furthermore it is ventilating in the room where the printer is more difficult, especially since the hamster cage of my girlfriend is in the same room. Especially since I don’t have to rework significantly because the whole system is modular and doesn’t need any screws or sticky material, the risk of thanks to me was too big. TPU is already quite fixed, from which I would print the pole feet to not scratch tables and make the whole stable. Wood I just take what I find and what works, because I will try something, the selection is not extreme huge
Then I recommend the filament of Amolen or Sunlu for Wood. Unfortunately, Amolen no longer delivers to Germany. It’s a target on the side.
But Sunlu wood is also great to print. I’ve printed a lot with it and I’ve never had any problems with it. They also have camps in Europe. This does not take long.
Since it is cheaper to make a table of wood, because the filament and the printer required for it costs a 5 digit amount. Because you need a special printer that is very expensive. As an alternative, you could order a company, which is not cheap either.
To what extent you need a special printer. All the items fit on my printer without any problems and the material should not fail I think
I also see I’ve stumbled, the border is from TPU
Good luck with this, I hope the printer keeps through for so long
Thank God I have a total of 3 printers (Friends help me out) on which I can print
