Where do the plastic hairs on the Styrofoam come from?
Where do the hairs (easily visible on the upper side) on this piece of Styrofoam come from? I've never seen anything like it before. What's the point? Are these fibers harmful?

This can happen if this material is cut with a hot wire, for example.
However, these "after-runners" are still far too coarse to pose a real micro-dust hazard to the respiratory system.
However, it is recommended that you at least use a dust mask when processing this material at home and that you thoroughly sweep the panels after cutting them for indoor use.
