When I move data to an SSD external hard drive, only empty folders appear. The memory is still occupied. Why?

I bought a 30TB SSD external hard drive. As soon as I copy/move files, such as pictures or films, the folders appear but they are empty. The memory is still occupied. I thought the drive was defective. I exchanged it twice, but the new one is the same. Do you know why that is? It can't be that all three drives that I bought are defective.

I have a 30TB SSD external hard drive

My condolences, you were pulled over the table. Your SSD does not store 30TB and therefore data you simply store in the Nirvana.

If you’re curious, it’s a real 30 TB SSD and its price tag https://smicro.eu/kioxia-cm6-30-72tb-nvmepcie4x4-2-5-15mmsie-1dwpd-kcm6xrul30t7-1

This is just scrapping and the data is scrap and can not even help expensive data recovery if you lose important data.

If you’re in such a mess, there are some 64GB or 128GB memory cards in it that have been manipulated so you’re claiming to have 4TB.

All that then comes to the “SSD” more than the 64 or 128GB, is then stored in the empty one and is then gone.

If I move data to an SSD External Fesplatte only empty folders to memory is still occupied Why?

Data is stored in 2 locations. The file system catalog at the beginning of the data carrier stores file name, owner, access rights, creation date, folder structures, etc.

The data is then applied and the storage occupancy is also determined via this.

The actual data are then located at another location on the data carrier. If the actual memory is used up can only be written in the file system at the beginning of the SSD, but the actual data will then end up on non-existent memory cells and “puff” simply in nothingness since the disks are also manipulated so that you don’t issue any errors when accessing invalid storage areas.

Therefore, you will see empty folders and no error messages.

If you want to send me the SSD, and I’ll take a closer look at this thing and make a video and a blog article to warn others.

There are some possible reasons for the storage space on your SSD hard drive being occupied, but the folders are empty. One of the most common reasons is a false transmission or a transmission error. There can also be a problem with the file system or permissions on your computer or hard drive itself.

To fix the problem, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check the transfer: Ensure that the transfer of the data is complete and that no errors have occurred.
  2. Check the file system: check the file system on your SSD hard drive and make sure it is formatted correctly and does not have any errors.
  3. Check the permissions: check the permissions for the folders on your SSD hard drive and make sure that you have the necessary permissions to access the data.
  4. Try to transfer the data again: If the above steps do not work, try to transfer the data to the SSD hard drive again.

If the problem remains, it may be helpful to consult a technician to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem.

30 TB SSD??? This would cost several thousand euros if they were there.

I think you’ve become a victim of a fraud.

For how much and what brand/model?

No, she doesn’t have the promised memory. The manipulated SSD firmware accuses Windows that 30 TB are present, but this is not true. Probably only a fraction is available. Vllt 100-200 GB or something.

A normal SSD with 30 TB capacity and also fast transfer rates when writing/reading. Costs on the market Officially,Real around 4-6000€ in the most priced version.

SAS models come looser to over 10,000€ . m.2 NVME with 30TB are around the 25,000€ the piece no matter whether SAS or only m.2

I am proud owner of a single 30TB NVME 🙂 I have received this by a stupid customer supplement and may call it my own …

It can’t be. Clearly fake.
