When does the dative come into play and when does the accusative come into play?

So sometimes I don't know whether I should write "ein" or "eines," "von" or "dem," "mir" or "me," etc. What's the logic behind this?

(me-me test is not always applicable)

This depends on the verb

someonem give, say, give, …
someonen see, hear…

or from the preposition.
These always need the battery: to, through, for, against, without around, along
And this is the Dativ: from, with, after, from, to,

However, these are only those most commonly used.

in the Dativ is the question: whom

at the battery: wen

I’ll give my friend a book.

ANNEX Dativ: Wem do I give a book? – My Friend.

ANNEX Battery: What will I give to my friend? – A Book.

I’ll invite my friend to my birthday.

ANNEX Dativ: To what will I invite my friend? – To my Birthday.

ANNEX Battery: Wen do I invite? – My Friend.
