When do you switch to which gear?
When do you shift into which gear?
I have my fifth driving lesson tomorrow, and the instructor told me today that he doesn't like me at all, saying I keep drifting out of my lane, sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right, etc., and that I shift gears strangely. He said 0-15 is first gear, 15-30 is second, and 30-50 is third. So what happens next? How can I ask him nicely tomorrow if he'll maybe show me how to reverse so I can see it, but without him saying something like, "You can't even drive properly, how do you expect to learn how to reverse?" (This is my last manual driving lesson, after which I'll go on to automatic).
I find him so unpleasant. He always stops about 7 minutes early even though I still have time to drive. He once said to me, "Don't you feel it or what? Just let it come from the clutch. If you don't feel it, then you should go to a doctor and have your foot checked. Trust me. I have a strange feeling in my stomach and don't want to see him tomorrow 🥺🥺 Luckily, last time I drove, he said himself, "I know exactly that in your subconscious you're thinking, 'I'll be rid of him tomorrow,' and so on." How does he know that?
Free yourself from the idea of driving certain speeds in certain gears. Once this is different from car to car, and secondly it can be different from situation to situation. Because, for example, a lot of engine power or a lot of braking effect is sometimes required and therefore a high engine speed is sought and sometimes a constant speed is passed and then a low engine speed is more efficient.
But basically, the thing is very simple: If in a situation the engine turns unnecessarily high, you turn into the next higher gear. And if the engine turns too slowly in a situation, you’ll turn a gear down.
More detailed description:
And you can be completely wrought in what course you’re in, what kind of car you’re driving… feelhow the car just drives and noticed where in an H circuit the next gear is when the shift lever is just “front” vs. when it is “back”.
The driving instructor seems to have missed his job. His task would be to patiently explain.
When you turn it off, it’s not purely dependent on speed. I can drive at 50 in the 3rd, 4th or 5th. Higher engine speed brings more force. So if you want to speed up or go uphill, choose a smaller gear. If you only want to roll in uniform traffic, you can take a higher gear.
It is of course also dependent on the vehicle. Small gasolines must be driven at a higher speed than larger, or diesel. You feel and hear that, with a little experience. Of course you haven’t.
You can also look at the speed meter. Keep the speed so close to 2000rpm (in diesel), then it fits. At the gasoline a little higher.
This varies from model to model. Diesel is different from petrol.
You’ve been driving your driving school car more often and I guess it’s a diesel. At diesel, you can turn up very quickly and shut down late…
