What would your swimming pool look like?

We have our own swimming pool. My grandparents built them themselves, as my grandfather was a diploma engineer and my grandmother Bauzeichner, they could. It is a swimming pool with a depth of about 1.65 meters with water treatment plant and heat pump in it, the length is about 14 meters and the width is about 5.50 meters. When you get in, you will find the dressings on the right first, along with the shower with shower heads from all sides and again there was a diving pool, a kind of whirlpool with massage nozzles to stand in. In the meantime, however, this is a storage chamber on two levels. The sauna is located straight away, about 6sqm in size with 4 benches on 2 levels. On the left is a front with built-in wardrobes and a toilet next to it, then the “main room” comes with the swimming pool on the right and a tiled area about 17 meters long and 3 meters wide on the left. On the previous 4 deck chairs, which were aligned to the previously existing canvas (in the meantime pictures are hanging there), but since that is no longer in operation, there are still 2 there, which are facing the almost continuous window front lying opposite the canvas. On the left side of the deck chairs there is a bike ergometer, a fitness equipment and a weight bench, and on the right there is a round table with 4 chairs, behind it is a TV, and again behind it was the transition to an annex with another room, which served as an office from my grandfather decades ago, but since this part has burned down, there is about 3 meters free space and then it is over.

So more or less is really everything I would build myself. I would reactivate the canvas again, put in more deck chairs and maybe even a sports equipment, and for that I would take away the TV, maybe I would also put the diving pool back into operation. But otherwise everything is a dream 🙌 Although the facility (made at the beginning of the 80s) is already somewhat older, but still nice to look at and in good condition.

Of course, my sister and I were a star at school, but the tribute goes to my grandparents, who fled from the GDR in the 1950s and then built up a new home completely on the North German country. They had almost nothing when they came here, and then they built themselves a 5-room house with about 120sqm, connected double garage with caravan parking, a garden as big as half a football field and later the indoor swimming pool. First used in the caravan on this large plot (at that time still usual) and then gradually raised everything. Man, I wish I could leave such a heritage to my unexistent family later on. It really needs fighting spirit. After the 10-hour shift Monday to Saturday every day, still work until 10:00 a.m. and for years – so much discipline does not bring everyone.

And if I were to build a commercial indoor swimming pool, it would look quite exactly like that, just according to everything a bit bigger for more people. But so from the construction not commercial as in huge swimming pool landscapes, but rather small and cozy. Maybe another slide.

However, something like the future maintenance of our swimming pool or the construction of one’s own is probably more utopian, because the maintenance costs for one such are extremely high. Now my grandparents could afford this and my grandma now has enough pension with 89 years to entertain all this with gardeners, but as a normal earner it is rather difficult. The swimming pool is probably pumped out later and a floor is moved over and the hall is then used or inhabited in another way.
