What would you do?

Hello everyone.

My husband is an American and needs to take his driving test. We're currently looking for an English-speaking psychologist nearby (who also accepts new patients), as he has ADHD and hasn't taken medication since the Army, but he still expresses recurring problems.

He has to take the theory test within a certain time so that he can drive without a break, as his US driver's license will no longer be valid.

He's learning with an app, and the translation isn't the best. I'm at C2 level in English myself and have trouble answering the questions correctly. When I get the same question in German, I at least understand it. 😂 I assume the app uses the official translation. It's really frustrating, and my unmedicated ADHD is also a hindrance.

He studies very little, says he can't concentrate for long periods of time, and after work (9 hours plus about a 2-hour commute), he's always exhausted anyway. New job, new work—of course it's exhausting.

Sorry for the novel, now to my question:

How can I support him without putting pressure on him? Am I stressing him too much? How much should he study to pass the exam?

I'm a bit overwhelmed because I've never consciously had anything to do with ADHD in adults and don't know to what extent it affects life.

Would be grateful for advice,….

If he’s already got medicines for ADHD before, he’s supposed to collect his findings and take them to his German pediatrician. Then he gets a new recipe also OHNE that he must first become a therapist.

What would I do? Stop nuts like that. Yeah, ADHS sucks. But he is adult and must learn to organize himself and also finally learn the language from the country where he wants to live now.

I just understand your husband too well. I don’t have ADHD, but I have to say. FS do what makes me trouble.

Your husband’s FS may be or gulled, but may not drive with it, as he is neither army nor tourist. Look out.

Why is your husband on a job visa in DE? A professional German wife is the right of the foreign husband to stay incl. Work permit.

As a veteran, he could go to the VA there for treatment.

Oh, that must be new. I didn’t need my husband. He could only: where is the railway station and I am great hunger.

First look for new work. 9h and 2h. Whut.

I work 7h and have 15 minutes driveway. I think that such a change would bring him a lot more leisure and rest.

I understand that he doesn’t want to learn in the rest of the time.

Okay, but it’s too big. I hope you find something

You could support him by translating the questions into English with deepl. Deepl is self-explanatory.

This is only a learning process, he then has the German questions and knows what they mean. Who lives in D must master these bureaucratic hurdles.
