The first hard drives were “external” only not really portable: comment image

They definitely came to the market in 1956 and these monsters weigh approx. 500-1000 kg and had 4-5MB storage space if I remember correctly.

You opened a gate box of the tower computer and pulled out. Of course, only when computers are switched off. (so to the hard drive there was a small key)

I thought the bus was MFT, but also with SCSI.
