Depends on what you want to rewrite with the name “classical music”. Music of the late Middle Ages the nova. The term Ars antiqua for old music from the 13th to 14th For demarcation purposes only the century came up later.

Generally, such assignments in epochs are more recent date, a product of musicology. Music of the Renaissance didn’t call Renaissance music at that time. The name Barock is also only since 18/19. Century known.

Then, of course, there were also names such as chamber music, orchestra music – symphonies, folk songs, opera, seafarer songs, srammeln, etc… folk songs, folk music, seafarer songs, srammeln, barden… then were the counterpart to pop music. Pop = Popular = People.

And today there are still modern orchestra music, film and computer playing themes, and folk music as well as old classical music, and new pop in all forms. And Rock, Heavy metal is often more like classical music.

There were clear, local names (chamber music, theatre music, church music). Orchestral music actually called playing in Orchestra, a part of the theatre. This was under theatre music.

Of course there were also musical feuds like Rondo, Opera, Toccata, Menuett, Sinfonie or Sarabande… But real roof and epoch names were rather strange. In the 18th century there was this idea that composers wrote “classical music”, at least not.

It was just the normal music at the time, so I guess “music.”

AC/DC is not classic yet. It’ll take time.

2 Cellos prove here that you can sell any rock piece as a baroque.
