One has a SATA 2 interface, the other SATA 3. Both 500GB, both 2.5″, both 5400RPM, both 8MB cache.

Since even with SATA 2 still the HDD itself is the bottle neck, you don’t notice any difference between the plates. Just take the cheaper one. Depending on the intended use, you might also need to take a SSD directly.

Correct, you’re better served with an HDD.

There is no big difference except weight:

https://storage.toshiba.com/internal-specialty-hdd/pc/mq01abf-series

https://storage.toshiba.com/internal-specialty-hdd/pc/mq01abd-series

  1. MQ01ABF: 92 grams
  2. MQ01ABD: 107 grams

The plates have both SATA III, the 1. there are only up to 500 GB, the 2nd to 1000 GB.
