One has a SATA 2 interface, the other SATA 3. Both 500GB, both 2.5″, both 5400RPM, both 8MB cache.
Since even with SATA 2 still the HDD itself is the bottle neck, you don’t notice any difference between the plates. Just take the cheaper one. Depending on the intended use, you might also need to take a SSD directly.
No… need to archive data longer… so SSDs are not so suitable.
Correct, you’re better served with an HDD.
