What is the best way to cut Styrofoam?

I would like to cut a “channel” into a piece of Styrofoam to place a cable in it, for example (see picture below)

What's the best way to do this? A carpet knife won't work because the Styrofoam is at least 20x50x100 cm.

I want to cut out the yellow

If it should only be expedient and not look pretty, then it would be cut through, make the middle part slimmer and stick together again an option. You could also heat a metal rod and put it in the polystyrene. It doesn't need much heat, but a metal rod with the appropriate diameter.

I just read that the neckline should be accurate. Then do not melt the right choice.

It doesn't have to be very hot. Styrofoam begins to melt at 60 degrees. This is done easily with a flame burner or a soldering lamp. Oven would also be conceivable if the rod fits in. But you can also make a campfire, that would be the most cozy variant👍🏼

You can melt the channel (STINKALARM) with a soldering iron.

You can mill the channel (CRUMB ALARM) with an (upper) trench.

It should also work with a FRIAN cutter blade and a linear guide. First, cut the edges in a plurality of runs on the right and left in order to then be able to carve out the bulk of the volume with an obliquely held blade. This can remove up to 3/4 from the volume. The rest you would have to try to rust out (CRUMBS…).

As an alternative to the rectangular cross section of the channel, I would cut into a V-shape. This removes the entire cross section of the V without residues.

You only cut R + L and then from the middle obliquely to L + to R. Then you can take the long triangle out. After you turn to the upright triangle, you can cut it out slowly with a sharp side.

If it doesn't have to look so beautiful then you can cut it out with a long knife piece by piece.

Normally you do this with a hot wire. For a one-time thing, I would still take the cutter.

Cut the flanks with a sharp bread knife and then cut out the material obliquely

Or you could just slip into the next building market and buy cable channels.
