What is stored in the QR code of the NRW Semesterticket?

Hey guys,

Recently, I had a situation where the QR code on my semester ticket (NRW) could no longer be read due to constant folding and unfolding. The inspector turned a blind eye and told me to reprint it.

I hadn't paid any attention to the code until now, but after checking it, I'm now interested:

What information about me or the ticket is stored in the QR code?

The QR code does not normally contain more information than is provided in plain text on the ticket, but it simplifies the verification of the data and the comparison with a list of blocked tickets stored in the validator.

However, if the QR code and the data provided in plain text do not match, this is a clear indication of a counterfeit.

If the QR code cannot be read, the validity of the ticket cannot be verified and the ticket is therefore invalid.

Hello, I can't confirm that the ticket is invalid if the overly detailed QR code isn't readable. You need a very good printer for that to even work. It never worked for me on my trip. They just asked for photo ID to verify the ticket details.
