I would always get it from GitHub when you have the choice.

You always get the latest release. I often had it with programs that the official pages were still one or more versions behind GitHub or SourceForge.

If the versions are the same, it doesn’t make any difference.

Otherwise I would only test virustotal

VirusTotal is enough. If 70 virus scanners find nothing, I won’t find anything when flying over.

Does it look like the code?

It’s on GitHub.

Virustotal is great, I also use it for software tests. On the other hand, you can spend money on a sandbox service, then you can start files and see what they do without putting your system in danger, but you need to know how for.

If you have no idea it is perfectly fine to upload the files to Virustotal. .

Alan Becker, I haven't seen him for a long time. He was my favorite YouTuber when I was a kid.

Thanks for the recommendation 👌

The best spectacle was when you installed 2 antivirus programs on the same computer

I also did it then because the paranoid was 😂. The biggest enemies of antivirus programs are other antivirus programs. They like to beat each other.

Bkav Pro sees everything that is not on the tree as virus, SecureAge APEX exactly the same.

Google says it is “Malicious” because it is an EXE that is probably not downloaded every day, the same virus engine is also used in Chrome and Chrome also looks at every second program as a virus.

And Ikarus says it’s an injector, so it injected code into another program, which is completely conclusive considering that it’s a plugin for GIMP.

I’d tap False-Positives. 19 developers are involved in the project, and the developer has its real name and face as a profile image. And the program is rated as safe by the community.

This is completely safe with very high probability.

Do I have this on the computer without what to do or only if I had run the exe?

If you don’t run the Exe, nothing will happen to your PC.

This is the code of the program. You only need it if you want to participate in the program or want to compil the program itself.

Only the Exe, under the Exe you charge the Source Code.

As stated, VirusTotal is completely enough. For VT, you have over 70 independent virus scanners with customized settings and the latest virus definitions and, moreover, VT checks the program in 3 sandboxes. No one can offer you more security.

The program will probably not just be a few lines long, but probably several thousand. No one can completely analyze it for the quick.

In addition, it is an open source program if malicious code were included in the program, it would have noticed someone from the Contributors and GitHub would have blocked the developer.

If you are completely paranoid, you can also run programs in Sandboxie or Windows Sandbox (if you have Windows 10/11 Pro or Enterprise) and see what processes are going on next to the actual program,

Do not make any difference, you can land on a phising site and infect yourself or download on Github from the wrong provider.

Generally, the Github version is but mostly up to date and has received the latest patches, while on the page mostly only large patches are added.

Go both. If the websites are serious, then download can run.
