A recent example is that Putin claims that the Nato would have promised not to expand to the east. He has claimed it so often and with such self-evidentness that many do not question it at all.

But if you question it, and start looking for evidence, you can google to death, you won’t find any.

Thus, it is with all claims whose truth content you cannot confirm from your own experience or from your own knowledge. If you want to know what it is, you have to research.

In principle, it is not so wrong to listen to what most say. It has a reason that minorities are just minorities.

The more disgusting an assertion is (Corona was bred by a power elite in the laboratory and released to humanity, the Amis have scraped the World Trade Center itself, the moon landing was turned in Hollywood and birds have been replaced by drones since the 50s), the more untrue it is in general.

If someone says you’re beautiful. Then this is an unproven assertion. The more people say this, independently, the more likely it is.

No. An unproven assertion is not or not necessarily a lie.
