What is an alter ego?

I've already googled what an alter ego is, but I still don't quite get it. Can someone explain this to me in a way that I can understand?

For example, Borat is an age ego of Sacha Baron Cohen.
So it's a role that someone always slips into.
The meaning is not clear. It is used for a soul mate in the further sense, as well as for an imaginary other person to whom one is connected. But this does not have to be a close friend, but rather part of a psychological connection.
old ego denotes another identity
For example, Clark Kent is the old ego of Superman
or Batman the old ego of Bruce Wayne
etc.
Your "alternative me." This can be a real or an imaginary person. This can have all the good or bad qualities you don't have.
