This is a continuation of a film that does not play after, but before the action of the film. Most prequels are there to illustrate the actions of character in the first films. Why they act as they act. What made the past of them. Or how the problem came about.

A good example is star wars episode 1.2 and 3. Which came out after episode 4, 5 and 6.

This is about individual films of the series. I don’t know if this happened in Jurassic Park or star Trek. In Jumanji there was no such thing.

A prequel is a movie that later came out but plays before the actual action.

You can also see the fantastic animal species as prequel for harry potter. Since the animal species played potter long before the action of Harry, but included some significant experiences of Dumbledore.

You’re right, but I would add that the term has nothing to do with movies. It is generally about the continuation of stories that play before the main story after internal chronology, whether they have come out as a book, film or computer game, for example.

Of course I can deceive myself, but I think Jumanji was continued in chronological order.

The first part plays in the 1970s and In the 90s.

And the newer in the modern age. At least I thought. It’s been forever when I saw him.

I once read it in connection with the term movies (can that be?) but what is that?

Til Schweiger explains: The difference between Sequel and Prequel

What’s a sequel?

Under Sequel one understands a continuation of a successful film in the film. The English term derives from the Latin word sequi from, to follow.
In a sequel the action of a completed predecessor film is continued – usually by the same director and with the same actors and characters.

.

What is a prequel?

In connection with the sequel one often hears the term Prequel. This is also a film continuation, but a special form of the sequence: The pre- stands for before, because a prequel does not play in the future, unlike the sequel.
Rather, a story is told which took place before the previous film.

What is the difference between prequel, sequel,spin-off and remake?

The Prequel tells the story before the movie it refers to. A doll from the flea market kills in the movie. In the Prequel you can see, for example, the doll maker who enters a business with a demon after the death of his wife and daughter.
