What happens if you call a number that belongs to someone you don't know?
My friend received a message that began with "Hello Mom/Dad" and contained a number from an anonymous person asking if he could write to them. My friend now has this number on WhatsApp and has written to them, and the messages are read, but the anonymous person doesn't reply. What is the goal of these people who send such messages, and when you write to them they don't reply? If the message even reached him, they should already have his number, right? Does it help to block the person after a few messages in case they hack their way through or something?
In addition to the already said: Through his response, he signaled that the caller is actively used.
Contact data can also be sold to data collectors. Active phone numbers are worth more than unified numbers. At some point, who buys this number and then at best only increases the unwanted advertisement.
They pretend to be the son/daughter of mom or dad, they say they have a new phone number and then ask for money what they urgently need.
And yes, there are always those stupid things that fall on it.
Boy, this has long been known, right??
I knew it, but my buddy didn’t care he wrote it anyway. But there’s no one else driving if the anonymous doesn’t write or something?
No, there isn’t.
They’re getting the news out to thousands. They’re just random hits. Select 0174 plus any 7-digit number combination. The chance that this number actually exists is quite high.
Even if he has the number of my buddy, can the anonymous also somehow draw data from the phone? And doesn’t the anonymous have to have the number of him before?
The anonymous sender of the message recognizes the type of response whether the recipient has fallen on it or not. Your buddy probably wrote something like “you got the wrong number, I didn’t write kids.”
That makes him uninteresting for a bit.
If someone answers “Hello fool, yes is good, saved your new number, kissing, mom!”, then the fish is on the hook.
Next comes, “Mama, what’s happening to me, can you lend me an urgent 500 euros? It’s just for a week… I’m really in trouble…”
