What else could be causing my Canon MP 550 to stop printing properly?

Hi there, helpers 🙂

I have now cleaned my printer (approx. 4 years old?) twice, including intensive cleaning. I have also had the paper feed rollers cleaned, but unfortunately none of this has helped.

The lines / letters are barely visible and totally blurred. There is no indication that ink is missing.

I don't use original Canon cartridges, but I do use Pelikan cartridges.

Thank you very much!

Pelikan cartridges are both the most expensive and least suitable replacements for the original cartridges. I doubt they even display the correct ink level, especially with Canon printers.

While I'm by no means a fan of the throwaway mentality, a four-year-old printer hardly deserves any attention anymore, as replacement parts would certainly be significantly more expensive than a suitable new purchase. It's unpleasant, but unfortunately, it's reality.

Beauty is, unfortunately, fleeting… The attribute of the device's brand isn't really important. The MP 550 belongs to the mid-price segment of home and small business all-in-one devices. This mid-price and low-price segment essentially relies exclusively on original consumables and prompt replacements 🙁

New print heads would certainly be more expensive than a completely new purchase, and you would then have a warranty again.

Get a (verbal and free) estimate, but make sure you sit down comfortably first.

Profitability: With an approximate new price of €200, the current value after four years is a maximum of €50. The rollers are already worn out, and the collection container may soon be full, depending on the intensity of previous use. Do you really want to invest more than €100 in such a device?

If I were you, I'd give cartridges from druckerzubehoer.de one last try. They've been working flawlessly on my Canon for years; one cartridge for your model costs €3.97. Then, with a lot of patience, try to blow through the dried-on gunk (intensive cleaning).
So it doesn't cost €20 and trying makes perfect…

Tip: If you get it working again, or buy another inkjet printer, stop using Pelikan cartridges and print a page with text and graphics at least once a month to prevent the ink from drying out.

You're welcome and thank you very much for the compliments and the compliments!
One consolation, albeit small: Your problem is very widespread, regardless of the brand, so you're at least in good company 😉

hey, 🙂

Your question was asked a while ago, and the problem is probably solved. I just wanted to say that, as an occasional printer, I've had the best experience with HP printers, as these problems never arise. Every new printer cartridge already contains a new print head, and the cartridges are hardly more expensive than conventional ones.

However, for those who print a lot, the Canon is the cheaper choice in the long run.

Write to Canon.

Spontaneously I thought of print head and I found this for/for third-party ink:

http://www.murks-nein-danke.de/murksmelden/pixma-550-mp-550-canon/

" If the print head is exposed to third-party inks, you can expect these products to cause permanent and irreparable damage to this component, for example, due to increased solvent concentrations or excessive pigmentation. Canon, of course, is not responsible for this. "

Of course I'm nice…especially nice to my printer…I just leave it alone…and use it at work^^

I hope you have at least disposed of your printer now^^

You've already asked in the GF forum and they explained to you that harping on about age in eBay questions and elsewhere isn't helpful advice.

You were also told that such replies would be deleted, which you yourself noticed.

So please stick to it

Firstly, most people do this together with their parents anyway

Secondly, younger eBayers are particularly keen to do everything right (in contrast to some 20-year-old mobile phone sellers).

Thirdly, in my more than 10 years of eBay activity I have never had any problems with anyone because of their age.

Fourthly, in my opinion, eBay more or less deliberately does not carry out any really effective controls, because younger people also bring in sales and these are the customers of the future.

Fifthly, GF is not a child-rearing forum

Sorry for my agitated words, but it really annoys me when someone keeps harping on about their age.

What does that have to do with the question???

Firstly, most people do this together with their parents anyway

Unnecessary chatter, a complete lie!!!

You seem to underestimate today's kids :-(((

Secondly, especially younger eBayers are very keen to do everything right

Haha…they can't do that yet!!!

You can see here again and again what kind of questions they ask:-((

Thirdly, in my more than 10 years of eBay activity, I have never had problems with anyone because of their age

I'll leave that uncommented…

Fourthly, in my opinion, eBay more or less deliberately does not carry out any really effective controls, because younger people also bring in sales and these are the customers of the future.

Oh, and for that reason there is nothing wrong with minors breaking the laws???

Fifthly, GF is not a child-rearing forum

No, but there is a valid policy here!!!

And after that, aiding and abetting an illegal act is prohibited!!!

Sorry for my agitated words, but it really annoys me when someone keeps harping on about their age.

NO. NIXX WITH SORRY:

Your unnecessary "answer" is not helpful in any way :-((

and that really annoys me
