HB because the letter block HBA – HBZ was assigned to Switzerland in 1927 to identify its radio stations.

Man could possibly close the H on Helvetia, but actually it has nothing to do with it. The letters are relatively arbitrary.

However, the HB alone is not decisive alone. Thus, different aircraft types, different license plates are assigned.

HB-A e.g. for 2 motored aircraft up to 15t departure weight etc.

It doesn’t mean anything.

Sometimes this is translated as a “Helvetic Covenant”, but that’s bullshit. Not all the identifiers are logical, and that’s why you don’t have to look for a point. For example, the United States has a PH or the Netherlands. It doesn’t make sense, so just take that stuff. 😉

HB=Helve band

So the German-speaking version of the Latin CH=Confoederatio Helvetica, which is found on the country mark of the car.
