What could that be?
My white and variegated rubber tree finally fell over and something broke.
So it's now forming a new shoot. But what's that in front of the leaves? It has lots of them, always in front of the leaves. Are new shoots coming out of those too?
Redish or not – this probably depends on the variety. I'm talking about Ficus Benjamin – he's a little related to it. In this case, the marked point between the leaf and the trunk is that where the next drive comes for a branch.
This is a new drive bud. The one next to the breaking point will drive out better than the next one inside.

Either a tiny drive, or there is a little split off from the red skin of the branch. I can't really see the picture.
