What could be a reason?

I'm currently writing a story about two twin brothers. They are very different but get along very well until their mother dies in an accident. One brother is supposed to blame the other (even though he isn't). Do you have any idea what the brother could use to justify the other's guilt? They are both eleven at the time.

Maybe one of the brothers was on his own, and the mother was worried because he wasn’t at home at the time he had agreed.

She could then, for example, have gone by bike to find him and had a traffic accident.

That wouldn’t be the boy’s fault, but the brother could think if she hadn’t gone, that wouldn’t have happened.

One boy is visiting friends/family members in another city. The other boy is at home with his mother. The mother sends the boy to carry the garbage down. He still meets the neighboring boy and chats a little with him. When he comes back to the apartment 15 minutes later, his mother is supported by the ladder when she brushes the window and hits the table top with his head. The boy immediately calls the ambulance, but the mother dies just before the doctor arrives. His brother accuses him: if you hadn’t been able to get out of garbage, our mother would still live!

Hello,

Maybe one of them fought with the mother before. She then went to visit a friend or whatever, and at the time of the adoption, one brother (the other accused) said that she should arrive well, whereupon the other said, “Don’t I wish you.”

It came to my head first.

For example, you could write the story in such a way that the mother dies in a car accident and who was a son. The other son blames him because he said he could have prevented this accident.
