DMT has ahallucinogenic effect. The perception changes, acoustic and opticalHallucinationsare possible. Consumers also report on increased self-perception. Physiologically, DMT has a slightly stimulating effect and leads to an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.

Through massive influence on the serotonin system the consumption of DMT, in particular with simultaneous use of certain drugs, can beSerotonin syndromeas a result. A very high dose of DMT can therefore be fatal. However, the critical amount is about 20 times higher than the normally consumed dose. Since the purity of the predominantly illegally procured DMT is usually not guaranteed, there is always the risk of consuming other, possibly toxic components.

The DMT naturally synthesized in the human body is also suspected of Formation of psychotic symptoms to be involved. Among other things, the hallucinogenic effects of DMT are similar to those ofPsychosis. High concentrations of DMT in urine were also measured for persons with an acute, untreated psychosis, similar to those who had consumed the DMT-containing beverage Ayahuasca immediately before. However, the role of DMT in the development of psychosis has not yet been studied in a well-founded manner.

Legal

In Germany, DMT is one of the non-transportable Anesthetic agents in the sense ofDrugs Act. Ownership and trade in DMT or DMT-containing preparations are thus punished.

In what quantities and where DMT is produced in the body is currently unexplained. Nor do you know what function it performs, if it fulfills a function at all. It could also only be a metabolic product which, so to speak, is produced by the way.

There are many speculations to endogenous DMT, partly quite mystical-esotericly charged (“DMT release” etc.), but comparatively few facts. Regarding the latter, I can recommend these videos:
