What are the chances of an unknown author getting a book published by a reputable publisher?
Hello,
I've often heard that the chances of a reputable publisher, where you don't have to cover any costs, publishing a book by a new author are almost zero percent. Are the chances really that bad, even if it's a very good book? Do they even read it, or do they just throw it away?
Publishers are handed over with manuscripts, of course everyone believes to have written the ultimate book. The chances are quite bad than the publishers are also taking a significant financial risk with new authors.
It is easier for literary agencies to enter into a contract. They serve as a collection point for the manuscripts and, if they are good, forward them to corresponding publishers. Costs about 15-20%. However, as they also take over the negotiations fee, guarantee payment, etc. and achieve better conditions in general, it is to be taken into account. Assuming not to come to a publisher at all, anyway.

Nice to know. I also dream about publishing a book, but…I don’t think I’m created I still like to write, but if I come to this:)
There is also the possibility to publish via Amazon KDP and that completely without any cost.
OK I will definitely improve grammar and improve some errors from it.
I don’t know if I’m really bringing it to a publisher as a book. First, Shania-Quest isn’t finished. And sometimes I don’t even think I have this talent to write. There is a lot to do with it and also courage.
Thank you for your reassuring words and good comments that you have noticed. Once again motivated me to write so much thanks to you 🙂
I looked at what you wrote. It would be safe for an eBook via KDP. To do this, you only need a file as a word file or as a PDF and a cover, then it can go. You can also create a pocketbook from this.
Here you can find some information on how this should be formatted.

There are also points of contact in spelling/grams.
Just a little bit of what happened to me when I saw it.
If you have Word or another text processing program, use the spelling control, it helps.
Yes only I have internet and buy or what send to online shops 0 idea. I’ve never ordered anything online or I’ve bought it completely.
Go to a book fair (Leipzig offers itself) and make personal contact with the publishers, who come into question thematically for your book. Give them something in their hands – a short teaser, which is what the book is about and a sample of the first chapter, for example. As an expression and possibly as a USB stick.
Thank you very much:)
So you’d have a better chance than “0”?
You have always had personal contact – and people have a face in sight when your name falls. As long as you don’t totally miss (extremely unlikely) there is nothing better for an unknown writer than having a direct, personal contact with the people who lift/sink the thumb when it comes to whether a book is included in the program or not.
In advance, also on the pages of the publishers that come into question for you, make sure that they have certain specifications regarding the formatting of the text (writing type, edge, line spacing, text bundle (left-hand flush, block set), accepted file types (rtf, docx, pdf etc) and so on and format your reading sample accordingly. Something should be found in a kind of FAQ. The American publishing house BAEN sees this e.g. Other – the 2nd point from above. However, there is also that it stands for the passage of manuscripts between 12 and 15 months need – so in any case bring a lot of patience (because I doubt that German publishers are much faster).
Directly to a publisher they are not really higher than zero. And if you send a manuscript (and not a professional exposé), they are really equal to zero.
You have better opportunities through an agency or, as recommended here, with direct contact at trade fairs. There are even special events for newcomers. But also there: Do not arrive with empty hands. And not with the manuscript.
Otherwise, it’s not bad if you’ve already won something in competitions, for example.
Call and talk to them. Tell them what it is about and after 2 minutes they can tell you whether they have interest or not. Don’t send the book to good luck. It won’t work.
Probably, most of them just send their manuscript.
Only if you’re lucky, they’ll send it back. In many cases you don’t even get an answer. So the best is to call and talk to them. Then you know if it’s worth sending it.
It is often not read. and if there are offers. 2 books for each 10,000 DM or publication in Switzerland at 3000 szf.
I’d like to know DM
at least they are not good. Rowling can sing a song of it. Their Harry Potter were rejected by 8 publishers.
