What am I doing wrong with my plant?

Hello everyone

I received this plant as a birthday present. I did some research and

It's a rainforest plant, so it needs little water, plenty of humidity, and not much light, making it the perfect houseplant. But now it's looking worse and worse. I just spray it a little with water and keep it in a shady spot with little light. How can I get it back on its feet?

Thank you in advance.

For your information: it is a Calathea

Calatheas are not easy. They usually don't want direct sunlight but still want to be bright. So try a change of location.

In the bathroom there is often an elevated humidity from the house or in a room where you dry laundry. The plants often prefer to be sprayed in.

Check the rootballs for safety, whether it's okay. It should always be fresh.

Too little water and too little light. No direct sun but no shadow. That's a Maramünt. In the evening the leaves close.

They do not like lime and therefore they should be poured with distilled water or with a mixture of distilled water and tap water

Or rainwater.

Such pots without a bottom hole are bad. It's incomprehensible why this is sold at all.

Too dry, or too wet, you cannot see on the picture. It's usually too much water.
