Was soll ich tun?
If you have a “right” publishing house, he will determine how to publish your book.
If you have a printing cost supplement, i.e. you invest a 3- to 4-digit sum in front that your book is printed, you should take the legs in your hand and see that you are coming out there.
About (example) BoD you have the opportunity to publish your book for small sum (39 euros) whether as eBook, hardcover or pocketbook. Advantage: It is also listed in the VLB (the directory of available books) and deposited with the German National Library.
About Amazon’s KDP you can publish the whole free of charge, get money on sales, can order author copies for reasonable price. Disadvantage: Not listed in VLB.
If you have any questions, you can send me messages.
You speak of 39 euros as a purchase price as a small sum. I think it’s very expensive. I suspect that the pocketbook would cost about a maximum of 12 euros, and if you take the middle and hit another 10 euros, that would be 20 euros. Would people like this and buy a hardcover book?
No, not the purchase price. You, as an author, pay 39 euros once so that it is also listed at VLB. What do you have for a publisher?
Well, I can only talk about my age group (young adults). Hardcover books are already bought, but especially only when they make up what – color cuts, special cover, beautifully designed layout etc.
If it’s just a stinky hardcover, I can also buy the pocketbook.
I buy hardcover mainly for collecting, i read Ebooks & Pocketbooks & hardcover then stand with me on the shelf & look pretty. I find hardcover simply impractical for reading & especially in the long term also unpleasant if I hold a heavy book in my hands for several hours.
I also know this from many other bookies on social media and also in the circle of friends.
It is also mainly due to the fact that the hardcover costs almost always over €20. There must be an optical bomb to make it really worthwhile. If the book looks great, I would like to spend 30€. But for reading, I wouldn’t buy. Then, as I said, buy again as Ebook or Pocketbook.
I’m just buying hardcover because pocketbooks are breaking
I never buy books. I like to read too much and do not have enough space in the apartment. For many years, I have been a happy member of the city library!
Before that, I also clearly favored pocketbooks, just because cheaper. And in my reading behavior, we really talk about a lot of money, which would have come together at the price difference to the hardcover…
In the meantime, it is exactly the opposite. Due to the fact that I have the library for my “all-day reading” I only rarely buy books. It’s like those I’ve known before that I’ll always like to look inside. And that’s why I’d rather take it than hardcover because it feels more worthy and more beautiful and doesn’t look as shameful as a pocketbook.
But yes, I think that in a pocketbook the sales figures tend to be higher, there’s something about it. A 10-Euro pocketbook is rather in the area of the carrier instead of the bottle of wine than the 25-Euro hardcover.
