Worse, worse, worst?
Both would have taken a lot more dead if it were necessary or possible. It is not the number of victims, but the perverse attitude of mind, boundless cold blossom, icy emotions…. Both were the worst.
There are some who look up to Stalin and Hitler.
According to their actions, Hitler was probably the worse. The industrial mass murder, the unleashing of the Second World War… both are things that take him away from Stalin.
However, today almost all people know what Hitler has done and that he is a criminal. Someone who raises the flag for Hitler, commits a crime in many countries around the world. For Stalin today, many, especially in Russia, still hold the flag. Stalinism – because Stalin has won the war – is far, far less well worked up than national socialism, in the respective countries of action. Well, and the result can be seen quite well today. It would go too far to reduce Putin’s war crimes only and only to the lack of work-up of Stalinism, but it is inconsistent that it contributes its part to this, especially as regards the mentality and self-understanding of the people in Russia.
For today’s society, Stalin is by the time a far greater threat than Hitler.
A comparison of Hitler and Stalin is like a comparison between Ebola and Pest. Hitler is like Ebola: comparatively short outbreak time, but at this time extremely lethal. Stalin is like Pest: a long-lasting epidemic, which could be survived with luck and which was basically not quite as fatal when taking a few precautions.
My friends in Latvia who suffered or their parents under Stalin and the red domination mean that Stalin was the worse of the two very bad. At least Hitler wouldn’t have killed his own people massively like Stalin.
Hitler with his holocaust and the war of extermination with the Barbarossaplan, i.e. the industrial murder of millions of people, made him the greatest criminal ever before. Other representations deprive all arguments of wanting to surpass this man.
