On Friday at 2 p.m., a working mate passed away from us and we wished him a nice holiday. He then rose in jeans and cotton shirt to his 3-speed bike, the leather bag (thermospot, rain jacket, a few spare socks and underpants and a bottle of wash powder, butter bread) on the wearer and drove from Stuttgart to Mostar (former Yugoslavia).

It may be that the gedoped athletes on the frene carbon wheels are faster before being prepared by the team physician and physiotherapy for the next day. But this man was my hero: Best cyclist ever!

He did this every summer. In jeans! I was speechless. I wear padded cycling pants for travel. I guess I’m a softie.
