On display resolution the differences are low. The pixel density is relevant as a comparison value. The MacBook Air has 227 PPI (pixels per inch) and the current MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ has 254 PPI. So the difference is not that big.
The larger the MacBook Pros on display, they also have significantly more pixels to achieve higher pixel density.
The higher maximum brightness, better black values, HDR and higher image repetition rates are more relevant advantages from the Pro models display. At resolution, all models are more than adequately good.
Your tasks will also be able to complete your M1 MacBook Air.
You could still wait, there are really reasons to justify a new device. Until then, there will probably be Macs with new chip (e.g. M4).
Servus!
What’s wrong with your current device? The MacBook Air M1 is still top so you can work for a few years.
You won’t get a much better battery life with such a small notebook.
The MacBook Pro display is mainly characterized by better black values, which should not matter for your studies.
so apart from the black value it will not differ? Thought it’s sharper and 4k video is even sharper than the Air
In purely mathematical terms, the pro is minimally sharper, but you should not perceive it. Both are more than sufficiently high-resolution.
The MacBook Pro still has HDR what I’ve never used since buying my MacBook.
What might be worth mentioning is that the pro in SDR contents can become 200 nits brighter than the air. But if the maximum brightness of the air is enough, it is quite irrelevant.
So the brightness is enough for me.
