What is the mode of inheritance?
Hello, my task is: "Attached is a family tree in which certain individuals cannot produce the enzyme DPYD, or can only produce half the normal amount. Analyze the family tree and explain the mode of inheritance." Unfortunately, I don't understand it and would be very grateful if someone could help me.
Google shows that the defect is autosomal recessively inherited, i.e. person 7 is homozygous for the defective allele 1 two 13 and 14 are heterozygous four six and nine are homozygous for the healthy allele.
The assignment to autosomal recessive is problematic, however, as one can see, in the case of more precise examination, the heterozygous ones can also be found, which is by definition an intermediate inheritance. I don’t know what the teacher wants to hear.
Without additional information on whether the inheritance is mono- or di- or oligohybrid, the question cannot be answered.
Under the assumption that the inheritance is monohybrid, it would be partially dominant or intermediate in special cases.
