Welchen 7er e38?
740, I wanted it back then, and I looked at some. Nice car.
I had a 728i as a hand switch and didn’t think it was slow. On the contrary, the car never gave the impression of driving a basic model. Only from the 725tds with 143 hp I guess it’s slapped and thirsty for a diesel, the automatic dampens it even further. Also the small eight-cylinder in the 730i is not the first choice as it tends to engine damage.
At BMW, the thickest motor is always recommended, but the Fanboys alone – but the 728i is all right and is sufficient in everyday life. You can hardly give proper rubber anyway, and the E38 then cleanses like a hole; I was able to achieve consumption values of less than ten litres with the 728i, while the rule was around the eleven liters of Super.
We don’t have a lot of choice anyway, it outweighs 728i and 740i, diesel is usually at the end and the rest hasn’t played a big role at that time. A BMW 750i will be found then and when, however, the entertainment costs will be completely eliminated. It doesn’t make sense and no fun.
Because for all evils, even if BMW fans will deny it, the E38 is very vulnerable, which makes it unreliable and rust is a permanent theme. The spare parts supply is tense, there is no more work or only BMW Classic at special prices. I even had not received the paint pencil and the paint spray in “263 dark blue” from BMW.
I’d guess about it, especially since most E38 are just through today. The E38 has considerable electronics problems and workshops are a case for itself. BMW dealers are usually not a big help and are desintered in such cars, free workshops with the extremely complicated seven-man are often overwhelmed. I’d let it be.
Sprit and insurance are not even the biggest cost factors. The permanent workshop visits, rust damage and the spare parts that are very expensive at BMW – BMW is asking much more than Mercedes or Audi – are even worse. We’re still moving in the top class, those were cars for 100,000 D-Mark.
Anyone who has to think about whether he can afford the E38 will have the confirmation in the wrong class. There is a possibility of evasion, namely the E39. I also had it, it’s almost as good to drive and much more compact and more predictable in the entertainment. A beautiful 528i is not just cheap to have, but an alternative. But also has a tendency to typical BMW diseases and can be very zigzag, I have separated myself without pain.
So doof it sounds, old BMWs are actually something for masochists with a lot of money.
Wow many thanks for the long and informative text 🙂
Sure. The sevens are awesome, the E38 is fascinating, you feel totally comfortable in it – but it is simply unreliable, especially when it comes to years. Mine always had something, I know similar differences from other E38 owners. Good workshops are more of the exception … spare parts are, as I said, partly no longer and partly already, but then at extreme prices.
The motors and gears are stable except for the small eight-cylinder (730i), and the units are also robust. Vulners only do the periphery, but this causes a lot of trouble and also costs with which you could entertain two very neat mid-range cars. That’s really bad, the car itself is great.
E38 only 8 cylinders!! The later who you want to sell the v8 gets even more money over but v6 no one wants..
that is the same as with the e30 e36 no will v4 all want only v6
There is no more choice. I can recommend V12.
Boah, 728i, this is a lame crate. Never and never, you have to stand that he swallows as much as the 740. I drove the 740s, and I was very excited.
