Basically, it’s like this:

  • Control class 1: single
  • Tax class 2: single person
  • Tax class 3: married, spouse tax class 5
  • Tax class 4: Standard case for married persons
  • Tax class 5: married, spouse tax class 3
  • Tax class 6: Every side job of not minijob is 6

In addition, there is still tax class 4 with factor, which has a more accurate distribution of tax burden depending on wages.

The question is, however, whether you are not in the mini-job and therefore have no tax class at all

The tax office will divide you into tax class 1 if you are single and have no children. This group therefore includes unmarried, divorced, widowed or married persons who permanently have two separate residences.
