Spanish is more “sensical” because it is understood throughout Central and South America and is also spoken in Brazil.

Both are sensible. But if you want to get around more in the world, except in Spain, most countries in Latin America (except Brazil, Belize or Suriname), then Spanish would of course be more sensible. And the grammar is, so you hear again and again, apparently easier than with Portuguese. Maybe both would be best, as you would have the huge Brazil in the plan.

Don’t ask. If you cannot decide whether to learn Spanish or Portuguese, both learn. It won’t hurt you. The more the better. This is Business

They’re both about the same heavy. And the most sensible is the language for which you are most interested.
