Which colors are suitable for painting stones?
I would like to paint small stones and then display them in my garden.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of felt-tip pens or paints are suitable for this? The drawings should, of course, be waterproof.
Acrylic colours are very suitable. They are most beautiful when they are preserved with a clear lacquer.
Every oil color I would think
acrylic, acrylic marker, permanent marker such as edding (in many different colors), good, highly pigmented wax-malcreids, normal, high quality colored pencils.
What colours are suitable for painting stones?
Alkyd resin colors would also go, but these are not water-dilutable.
Alkyd colours are rapidly drying oil colours made of high-quality pigments and oil-modified alkyd resin. The colors can be diluted with solvents and allow shorter drying times than most oil colours.
But they’re not so good for the environment.
Ideal are water-based and water-resistant acrylic strips, markers or acrylic paints in pots that are applied with brushes. Use acrylic colours from the specialist trade to paint as non-toxic as possible. It also works with chalk, crayons with soft mites or watercolour pencils.
