I would prefer the point as a separator of first and last name for a freemail account, but in principle, it doesn’t make any difference whether you are taking a minus or an underscore.

Personally, I’d rather put on the minus if there’s only this choice.

You can still think about getting your own domain with your mail server. For example, first name@nachname.de would be possible if aftername.de is not already assigned
