Antidepressants from the SSRI and SNRI group are considered the means of choice for prolonged drug treatment of anxiety and panic attacks. Specifically, the active compounds are Citalopram, Escitalopram, Paroxetin, Sertralin and Venlafaxin.

Antidepressants must be taken daily, only after 2-5 weeks and can have certain side effects especially at the beginning of the treatment.

So if you can not notice any effect after 2 months of escitalopram, you will take a too low dose (the usual dosage is 10-20mg) or the drug does not actually work.

Theoretically you can try it with another SSRI or SNRI. Alternatively, the tricyclic antidepressant opipramol is also frequently used in anxiety disorders. It has a different mechanism of action than all other antidepressants. Thus, even in the ineffectiveness of SSRI’s and SNRI’s, there is the possibility that opipramol acts.

Another alternative would be the anxious antiepileptic Pregabalin. It has another mechanism of action.

Well, that’s what’s up with chemistry. Exercise and behavioral therapy might help.
