Continue driving despite missing V-ribbed belt?
Good morning,
Today, while driving to school, I noticed that the battery warning light came on. In the school parking lot, I looked in the engine compartment and saw that the serpentine belt was missing. It must have broken and come off. Since the alternator is no longer charging the battery, and I don't know how long the battery will last before it's dead, I'm asking for advice.
The water pump is driven by the timing belt, which means the engine cannot overheat, which is a good thing.
I have already ordered a V-ribbed belt, but it is 35 km away.
Would you take the risk of breaking down on the motorway and/or accept consequential damage or would you rather have it towed, which of course costs a lot?
It is an Opel Corsa b bj 1993 (S93) 45ps 1.2l
Lg
At my A-class the generator was driven by the V-ribbed belt, and the air conditioning.
If you want to take the risk, you have to be clear, you should be able to prove that you have known of the damage and have accepted to stay on the highway cheaply, you pay not only all the tow costs yourself, but also get an official penalty at the top.
With me, the V-ribbed belt only drives generator, now an old Opel.
Then I’d rather pick up, the punishments don’t have to be, thanks for the help.
You’re welcome. I’d recommend you. Even if you give him or the one a little fare, you’ll get away cheaper, as a tow service, and criminal proceedings.
Thank you, as well as a nice day.
This is a different way of thinking, if it was just the help of the training grade. I’ll take the belt and build this suburb. Thank you and a nice day.
It differs from region to to towing service, at the distance traveled to the storage location. As prices cure from 150€ to over 320€ on the Internet. As long as the police aren’t in the game. If this happens, it gets really expensive.
Just as pure from interest, how high is the penalty for towing etc?
I used to drive over 100km with a Mondeo without light engines.
I think the 35 km will go without ventilation without radio and without light
You don’t get there, call the ADAC (or another automobile club) and let you help. to the emergency order a buddy or at the end a taxi…
I’ll pick up, the risk is too high. Thank you for your help.
You can take a tights as a short-term replacement, but you probably don’t have one….
I didn’t. I recently brought large cable ties from my car to the apartment, probably had something to bridge you.
The battery is just a starter battery.umd does not last long without LiMa. I was only able to avoid the highway, 2 km away
Unfortunately, it is up to home 30km. I have already ordered a new V-rib belt, but it is 35km away from me…
Then you should get tow or repair the car in place. It’s not a problem with an old B Corsa.
The Lima has a clamping device to be screwed. You have to relax so far that you get the belt over, then clamp it again
So screw LiMa, put belts on it and pull LiMa back tight? Sounds simple. Would be the best and most cost-effective solution.
Presumably span over the LiMa
Since the V-ribbed belt lies only on crankshaft and LiMa, you can pull it “simplely”?
Why don’t you leave the car where you’re somewhere?
I wouldn’t be going over the highway.
It’s going to the next workshop. You’ll be here by then.
The new V-ribbed belt is 35km away from me, my workshop is 5km away. That’s why I don’t want to visit another workshop.
you have to explain
the best way to ruin the engine completely, what does a new engine cost?
let the nonsense
I’m not a professional. The V-ribbed belt lies on the crankshaft and on the generator (in my car)
So the water pump must be driven via the toothed belt. I mentioned this because in the “most” cars the water pump is driven via the V-rib belt
without Lima running nix, the battery won’t last long and you just stand
So I had bad luck. Too bad.
