If the hard drive is no longer displayed in the disk management as a drive with correct capacity, an error on the firmware and/or hard disk physics is very likely!

Did something happen with the hard drive in the last time before the data loss or have an irregularity (e.g. slower access) occurred?
Does the hard disk now make unusual/other noises in the attempts to access?

Install Crystal DiskInfo and see if this tool can read the SMART values of the HDD.

If not, it’ll be a case for a prof. data savior. We start such data recovery from EUR 199.

Look at the data carrier management. If it is displayed, assign other drive letters.

Try another USB port, preferably USB3.0 directly on the board

Update the chipset driver directly from the chip manufacturer, as the USB controller driver is also updated with

I don’t think that – it’s almost the USB controller recognized but not the HDD behind it… This is 99.99% of the HDD!
