Water change aquarium only plants?

Hi! I've had an aquarium for a few days now. Today I filled it and decorated it with a few plants. My question is, do I have to do a water change even if there are no fish in it?

and does anyone have some general tips before my fish move in (mollies and guppies)

You shouldn’t change water. Ammonia has to be formed in the water, because only then are the important useful bacteria oxidizing this poison in nitrite also toxic. If nitrite is present, then the important bacteria that oxidize nitrate from it form – this is a plant food.

Without these bacteria, an aquarium cannot work. The development takes at least 3 – 4 weeks and so long you have to wait before you use fish. They’ll die!

How big is your aquarium? Mollys need at least. 100 l – a 80 cm aquarium.

Then it’s big enough for Mollys.

Yes, you leave it “inlet” for 3 – 4 weeks, then you can change 30 – 50% of the water – but please do NOT clean the filter, otherwise the bacteria are away directly.

Then the first fish can take in – not all at once, otherwise the bacteria are equally overloaded (by food residues and fish jersey) and the fish could die again.

After a week – if everything goes well – the next fish can move in. Remember, Mollys and Guppys get a lot of young people – so just a few fish buy – they become more by themselves.

Starter bacteria are completely unnecessary – the money you could have saved you. And water heater is also absolutely superfluous – you don’t need that too. Let the whole chemical stuff out of the aquarium – it’s just a shame.

Just wait 3 – 4 weeks – an aquarium requires one thing in particular: a lot of patience!

Good success

The filter should only be cleaned if the flow of the water leaves noticeably. And then the filter material can best be flushed out only with suctioned AQ water. Not with hot power water

If you only want to buy male animals, there are problems. In normal guppys the males become very aggressive when they have to live without females and then the beautiful fins have to believe. Stress does not fish well, they get sick very quickly.

And at the Mollys, no one will make the trouble in the store to find out only males – if the sellers in the store can realize that at all. And there are also aggressions without females.

If you don’t want to be younger, you better choose other fish – there are many of them that can be easily cared for… e.g. cardinal fish, jewellery alms, black neon, copper alms ….

That would be a much better solution!
