What would happen if I took 2 sleeping pills?
Because of school and my messed-up sleep pattern, I've bought sleeping pills. They're not strong ones, and to be honest, I don't really feel the difference with or without them. Now I've been thinking. It says on the package that adults should only take one pill, but I mean, what would happen if I just took two? I certainly wouldn't die or fall into a coma, but would I become even more tired?
The sleeping pills are called Zeller Schlaf Forte. The tablets are blue.
It’s hard to say. These are rather weak sleeping pills. But before you raise the dose, you should talk to a pharmacist or doctor.
Don’t worry about the prescribed dose! This is not for fun
Zeller Schlaf forte is a herbal medicine for the treatment of sleep disorders. It contains valerian roots and hop pegs. Symptoms of overdose are not known. Thus, you could take two tablets without going on, but the question is whether this makes sense.
Because the problem is that sleep is exactly a chemical process in the brain. If one wants to influence this one needs substances which overcome the blood-brain barrier and take active influence in the brain metabolism. In medically relevant sleep disorders, herbal medicines are not enough.
Most sleeping pills are subject to prescription. A recipe is required both for classic highly effective but addictive sleeping agents (benzodiazepines and Z-Drugs) and for non-skilling alternatives (e.g. sedative antidepressants or antipsychotics).
The strongest freely available sleeping agent is diphenhydramine (DPH). DPH is not prescription- but apothectic. This is a drug from the group of H1 antihistamines. DPH does not depend and is generally well tolerated (less side effects).
A somewhat weaker alternative is doxylamin. Doxylamin is also an H1 antihistaminic agent, does not depend on it and is generally well tolerated.
However, if you are already helping herbal sleeping pills all the better.
Work on your sleep rhythm and leave the fingers of such tablets. You sleep with that, but it’s not a really relaxing sleep.
This is Valerian + Hops. That’s not the solution. Do you have any sleep problems? What about sleeping hygiene? Do you have a regular sleep time? What else is in your bedroom? Mobile phone, desk, TV,…
I sometimes have sleeping problems, but not so much as I use military methods or just my imagination to fall asleep. What is sleep hygiene? I always go to bed in the same period not exactly to the minute, but at about the same time. My phone, Alexa, SmartWatch and my Convertible for school. Yes I have a desk.
If you have no sleeping problems, you don’t need sleeping pills.
Turn off your phone, Alexa, SmartWatch and Convertible or get out of your bedroom. If possible no work or leisure in the bedroom. Always make a ritual to get down half an hour before bed. For example, diary, short walk, meditation. It’s sleep hygiene.
