Hangs off the country. Often you get the passport in the country where you are born.

And then most of the parents..

In Austria not if not too ind. is a parent of Austrian and that is also true for many other countries.

Then this is one of the exceptions. My cousin, for example, is from India, but lives in Germany. She therefore has the Indian/German nationality although her parents actually come from Pakistan. How do you explain?

German citizenship is also acquired by birth. In other countries there is the root principle. As it is in Germany, this is only in 29 other states (as of 2019)
