Hello, I'm writing a poem analysis for my advanced German class tomorrow. I know exactly how to interpret a poem, but I usually have trouble understanding the content, which ruins my entire grade. How should I proceed in the exam if I don't understand the content of the poem?

Yeah, I can understand you very well. These are two different problems. I’d talk to the teacher about it. It actually has the task to fix these obstacles for a proper understanding. A dictionary can of course also be helpful. But an understanding faculty will always take into account that young people from today can no longer understand the German language from the newspaper around 1800. The only thing that comforts one is that Goethe and Schiller would not understand us today. Mom could make a poem for fun.
